Blindfold...and not the sexy kind unfortunately. But that's where the read for this week comes in. This dramatic label might make you think of all kinds of nefarious possibilities for how the gentleman pictured ended up in his predicament. For me though, it brings to mind the novels I've read with tortured heroes. There's just something about following the male lead through all kinds of turmoil that make the reader fall in love with him all the more. Some authors write the tortured hero particularly well but none that I can think of is so gut wrenchingly abused as John Ruark (Ruark Beauchamp) from Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's Shanna. A blast from the past read to be sure and one of what I would definitely consider "a classic" among bodice ripper romance. Any woman who's read this book can probably relate when I say that throughout a good eighty percent of the read, I could have happily pushed Shanna off a cliff so that I could take care of poor John Ruark myself. :)
If you are a romance novel enthusiast, you have to read or have already read Shanna if only to be able to join the chorus of women everywhere who join me in this sentiment. Plus, Woodiwiss is a legend in the world of romance fiction and I just had to have one of her books on my blog. All of her books are great but Shanna is one of my favorites of hers because, well...sigh...Ruark.
If you're into drinking wine with your romance reads, The Prisoner Wine Company's Blindfold White Wine will set the tone. As always, happy Wine Wednesday and happy reading!
Also, stay tuned to the blog because I have a cover reveal coming up soon!
