We're into the month of August now and this time of year always puts me in the mood for Americana. Probably due to all of the ranches and farms around where I live getting ready for harvest time and the beginning of county and state fair season. So this week's pairing is brought you by The Great American Wine Company and one of my absolute favorite 'blast from the past' books (one that love psychic Esme Le Couer from Crystal Tide would, undoubtedly, call "a classic".) That book is Yankee Wife by #1 New York Times and USA Today best selling romance author Linda Lael Miller. Miller's books are where I turn to when I am in the mood for Western romance. I love all of this author's historicals but Yankee Wife is one of my absolute favorites. I had to really dig to get this original cover pic because I wanted the layout to keep to an authentic Americana look, plus, it's just damn swoon worthy, as is the hero, Brigham Quade, owner of a lumber empire in a northern post civil war harbor town. If you haven't read Yankee Wife, pick up a copy and pour yourself a glass of The Great American Wine Company's delish chardonnay by Rosenblum Cellars for a late summer, read / wine pairing delight! *The cover for Yankee Wife has been modernized so I posted the newer version along with the blurb that you will find if you are looking on Amazon. As always, happy Wine Wednesday and happy reading! ![]() When a pretty spitfire who's down on her luck clashes with a stubborn man in search of a wife, sparks must turn to flames.... A year after the Civil War, courageous former Union nurse Lydia McQuire was gamely scraping out an honest living. But now, as she said yes to marrying a stranger, her knees gave way with fear. Mr. Devon Quade had seemed polite and handsome when she answered his ad for a wife. Only after Lydia had arrived in Washington territory did she learn that her bridegroom wasn't to be sweet Devon Quade, but his older brother Brigham, a widower with strapping shoulders, hands as strong as steel, and an arrogant belief that he was lord and master of his lumber empire, the town of Quade's Harbor, and the woman he married. Lydia's dislike of him was instantaneous...yet Brigham was awakening in her a white-hot passion, and a firm resolve: before she would share his bed, he would have to surrender himself, heart and soul, to love....
